Sustainable efforts to pass on Miyajima to the future
We aim to protect this miraculous cycle wherein people live together with gods and nature.
The Miyajima Visitor Tax we receive from you is used to develop a sustainable tourism community, including environmental improvement and citizen activities to pass on historic culture.
Four efforts for our future
Connecting People with the Community
Maintaining a tourism community environment that is comfortable to all
Maintaining restrooms that are comfortable, clean, and easy to use for anybody
Located virtually in the center of the Omotesando Shopping Arcade, the "TOTO Miyajima Omotenashi Restroom" does not look like a public restroom. It provides various functions including tourism information and a rest space. We keep this restroom clean and maintain and manage the facilities as we aim to improve satisfaction both inside and outside of the community.
Smoother travel at the entrance to Miyajima
During the high tourism season, many people and cars concentrate on the area around Miyajimaguchi, causing traffic jams. We engage in efforts to relieve this traffic, including providing instructions by traffic controllers, park & ride services, and streaming the road conditions via live cameras.
Smoother travel on Miyajima
We support the operation of the "Maple Liner," a private-sector share taxi service for peace of mind and comfort when traveling on Miyajima, aiming to address various travel needs.
Medical system that provides peace of mind
Operating on the island, Miyajima Clinic serves as the primary care physician close to home for community residents, and residents rely on it as the only health clinic on the island. During May and June as well as October and November, they also provide as much support as possible, even outside of normal operating hours, for tourists experiencing sudden fevers or accidental injuries. Also, during the night and early morning, patients are sent by fireboat to medical facilities on the opposite shore.
