Sustainable efforts to pass on Miyajima to the future
We aim to protect this miraculous cycle wherein people live together with gods and nature.
The Miyajima Visitor Tax we receive from you is used to develop a sustainable tourism community, including environmental improvement and citizen activities to pass on historic culture.
Four efforts for our future
Connecting People with People
Supporting activities that allow visitors and residents to communicate with one another
Making Miyajima fun to reside on
The "Miyajima Good Town Project" provides information about learning and hands-on experiences on the island as well as promotes the use of empty houses. They hold flea markets, lectures on room cleaning, and other events that create opportunities to enjoy interaction between participants.
Passing on traditional culture together
The "Chue-machi Revitalization Project" engages in unique activities, such as using benches in community development. They hold workshops for creating pine torches that are lit from the main pine torch during "Chinka-sai," Itsukushima Shrine's Fire Prevention Festival held on Mikasanohama every year on New Year's Eve. This and other events they have created provide opportunities to increase interaction through traditional culture.
